Welcome to Rural People Education and Development Centre

Rural People Education and Development Centre is a non profit organisation founded in the year 1992. RPEDC aims to promote empowerment and development of downtrodden people for their self reliance and social harmony. In 1994, it had started its work in Tirukoilur Block of Villupurm District of Tamilnadu, India. To bring social change in the society it had organised women and youth in the villages. Awareness creation had done to make the women and youth to understand their rights, their social status and their dignity. Ten villages of Tirukoilur block had been selected, those are located in interior places as target villages. After observing social conditions of people, it was decided to do intensive work for the empowerment and development of rural women.

Women are vulnerable group, leading life as secondary citizens and need to be taken care. In 1998, five Dalit women groups were formed in the villages of Senkanankollai, Pomianthal, Panapady, Thimmachur and Padiyanthal with 100 women members. They started to do self help group activities such as small savings, micro credit- an internal lending and social activities. Then with the support of Andhrei Hilfe Bonn Germany, women empowerment and development activities are extended to neighboring villages of Tirukoilur, Sankarapuram and Tiruvennainallur blocks. With the effective participation of rural women, many women group activities and common programmes are promoted to fetch benefits to the rural poor. Together with women,

rural children, another vulnerable group of society has been benefited by the implementing projects. Main thrust has given to capacity building, women leadership promotion, developing local resources, solidarity and unity of women and their wholistie development. At present, there are 360 women groups are functioning with 6820 women members and their families also benefit. By the enthusiastic participation women group members they are moving towards equality and aspiring uphold human dignity and respect. Now rural women from various community backgrounds are utilising the programmes of RPEDC for their empowerment and development. RPEDC Trust Board is consisting of five trustees, among them Mrs. M. Jayaseeli is the Director.
